Artist Statement
My photographic journey began 11 years ago, when as starving, newlywed, college students my husband fulfilled a dream of mine by purchasing me my first SLR from a pawn-shop for Christmas.
With that pawn-shop SLR in hand; my adventure in "seeing" began. Starting with portrait work, I honed my skills taking pictures of children, parents and even pets. While I enjoyed (and still enjoy) trying to capture the personality of my subjects on film, I wanted to find a way to more deeply express myself with my camera.
Time has passed, and I am 3 cameras away from that first SLR. The discovery of the ability of a camera to capture more than the eye can see, has led me to experiment in photographing the "beautiful in the ordinary". My work strives to find artistry in the common, using the principles of color, balance, rhythm, and shape. I attempt to create a fluid, ethereal, vibrant, visual work that draws the viewer in and encourages a closer look.
